2020 - Regatta Cancelled / Changes for 2021
What an unprecedented and unexpected start to the sailing season.  We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during these challenging times.

Unfortunately, the 2020 E Scow Blue Chip regatta is cancelled.  With so many qualifying events being cancelled, along with the risk of COVID-19, it does not make sense to have an E Blue Chip this year.

But we do have some exciting news to share.

Since shortly after the 2019 E Blue Chip, we have been meeting regularly to discuss ways to enhance the regatta.  What better way to do that than to collect feedback from YOU, the sailors themselves--sailors who have participated in the event dozens of times--sailors who, just last year, sailed it for the first time.  Based on the feedback, we are excited to announce a few changes we think you are going to love:
  • More racing and stay on the water:  7 races scheduled, starting time around 11:00 am, conditions permitting.  3 races Friday, 3 Saturday, 1 Sunday.  No lunch break, big breakfast served at the PYC instead.  Races are back to back to back with a short on the water break between.
  • Defer invite: If your first qualification is at the September Nationals, due to the close timing with the Blue Chip, we will allow you to defer your invite by one year.
  • More communications:  We will communicate more throughout the season about the Mystery Guest and who has qualified, as they qualify.
  • No bar walk.

We are truly looking forward to 2021!  Stay safe!

Mystery Guest
The 2019 Mystery Guest is Malcolm Page.

Malcolm Page is our Chief of U.S. Olympic Sailing, the head of the U.S. National Team and overall U.S. Olympic sailing effort.  Malcolm is widely considered the most successful Olympic-class sailor in Australian history.

  • During his time in the Men’s 470, he won back to back Olympic Gold Medals in 2008 (Beijing Games) and 2012 (Athens Games), each with a different skipper (a feat accomplished by very few across our sport and by no American yet).
  • From 2001 to 2012, Malcolm stood on the Podium in ten 470 World Championships, winning Gold in six (again a feat no one else has achieved).
  • In 2011, Malcolm was honored with a place on the Australian Institute of Sport’s “Best of the Best”, the highest honor given to Australia Athletes.  At the time, he was the first and only sailor to earn that honor.
  • In October of 2016, he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
  • Three-Time Olympic Sailor – 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London
  • Olympic Gold Medal – 2008 Games in Beijing (Men’s 470 Class with Nathan Wilmot)
  • Olympic Gold Medal – 2012 Games in London (Men’s 470 Class with Mat Belcher)
  • Eight-Time World Champion (Men’s 470: 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012; ISAF Games: 2006; Open 420: 2004)

The Blue Chip Regatta is hosted by the Pewaukee Yacht Club in Wisconsin. The E Scow is a 28 foot lightweight racing sailboat built by Melges with an asymmetric spinnaker, sailed by 3 to 4 people that can easily reach speeds in excess of 20 knots. Each year, an elite, international sailor is invited as a special guest that is kept a mystery until just before the event. We provide the sailboat and the crew. If you love sailing, you must follow this event.
